The Briar Forest Renovation remakes a patio home that was severely flooded in the wake of Hurricane Harvey. The owners wished to breathe new life into the home by opening it up on the ground level and washing the walls with bright sunlight.
Upon entry the visitor is greeted by a dramatic stair, anchored at the base with built-in millwork and a tucked away bar facing the Dining. The last leg of the stair turns and sails with a single stringer ducking beneath a curved ceiling up to the bedrooms above. The kitchen was re-oriented and a modern interpretation of shaker style doors introduced. The family breakfast nook is conceived as a serene and calming space for meals or homework. A theatre space is tucked off the Living Room, anchored by a quartz clad fireplace. The bedrooms and baths upstairs were, like the rest of the home, reconfigured to make the most of a modest space. Wood floors provide warmth and white walls and ceilings reflect light and allow collections of books and objects to animate the space.
