The skyline residence is a renovation of and addition to an original design by Ebba Wicks Brown, “Oregon’s First Lady of Architecture”. Located in Astoria, Oregon, the house sits on a ridge overlooking the coast of the Columbia River. Cedar shakes replace the existing siding and return the house to the material palette indicated on the original drawings.
At the house’s interior, partition walls and the existing ceiling were removed to allow for an expansive living space. The new ceiling is clad in wood and follows the profile of the roof, creating a sense of warmth at the center of the home. Generous windows provide expansive views of the river to the north and an interior garden to the south.
