This modern home is sited within a well established community within Sugar Land. The requirements for masonry at the ground level led to a decision to frame an inset glass wall between two solid stone wings serving to screen the front from oblique angles along the street. Above this plinth rests a light frame structure of stucco. Separating the two materials horizontally a metal roof provides ample shade and an aperture to the sky at a front courtyard. Wood accents between the windows to add depth to the façade and unify programmatic elements. Pivoting wood screens at the entry allow copious amounts of transparency when desired but the additional ability to shut down the house from a frontal view when moments of privacy are wanted. To the rear of the house the second level cantilevers with a deck to provide generous views and shaded cover facing the lake.
