This modern interpretation of a hacienda encircles an existing mature oak tree with deep porch and shuttered windows providing shading from the southern sun. A second focal point is created by a pool on the eastern edge of the property; flanked by the master and pool house the water provides both atmospheric reflections and a place for family and friends to cool off in relative seclusion. A sun shelf encourages lounging in the shallow water and a relaxing transition into the water. Along the west side of the pool a path connects the kitchen to the outdoor grilling area. Off the study at the front of the house a restful trellised porch remains distant from the social center of the house, allowing private conversation and a perspective onto the pool.
